.....Joan Mann spends the greater part of each year on a small island in the Bahamas. Her work reflects the daily life in this, some what remote community, as the modern world systematically encroaches upon it... Her goal is to capture the life as it was in a simpler time, before the old ways disappear completely...

.....Joan paints in watercolors as well as acrylics... Her work is often very realistic, but at times becomes abstract; however, always it reflects the ever-changing colors in the surrounding waters, the strong affinity these island people have with the sea, as well as the beauty found in the Bahama Islands....

.....Formal training includes the Portland School of Fine Art, a B.A. from the University of Arizona and the Masters Program in Primitive Art at the University of California, Los Angeles... She has attended workshops at Arrowmont School, Martello Museum in Key West and the Art Center, La Jolla, California...
